What is a Commonwealth Assistance form and why do I need to complete it?
Updated

If you are going to study at a higher education provider or university, you might be enrolled in a place where the Government pays part of your fees. This is called a Commonwealth supported place (CSP).

The Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF) is a legal document whereby you accept and agree to the conditions of your Commonwealth supported place and, if you elect to defer your fees to a HELP loan, your obligation to the Commonwealth to repay your debt.

Students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place must submit a completed Commonwealth Assistance Form by the census date the study period in which they commenced their studies.

If you do not submit your form by the census date, you are no longer eligible for Commonwealth support and your enrolment will be cancelled.

To complete your form:

  1. Log into UConnect
  2. Student Centre
  3. Commonwealth Assistance form tile
  4. Follow the prompts
Note:
HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP forms allow you to defer your tuition fees only. These forms will not defer the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SAF).

A separate SA-HELP form must be submitted by the relevant census date to allow you to defer your SAF. To locate the SA-HELP form, navigate to the Commonwealth Assistance Forms tile in your Student Centre, then select the SA-HELP option from the menu on the left.

Remember to have your tax file number ready if you are planning on deferring your fees to a HELP loan.
