How do I apply for Tertiary Transport Concessions?
Updated

Eligible tertiary students can apply for concession fares on TransLink public transport services (excluding Airtrain), regional qconnect bus services and approved regional ferry services.

Go Card network

If you travel on public transport in the Go Card network, you will need to apply for concession through Translink. UniSQ will then verify with Translink that you are eligible for concession.

Before applying for concession please view the eligibility criteria for tertiary concession fare as not all students will be eligible.

If you currently hold a current student concession Go Card (green card) you will still need to apply for the concession fare. Once Translink has confirmed concession fare eligibility the concession fare will be activated on your Go Card. When activated, you will receive an SMS or email notification and see 'Pass Applied' when they touch on. If you are not eligible, you will need to travel on adult fares even though you hold an existing student concession card.

Replacement Go Card

Applications for tertiary concession fares are linked to individual Go Cards and are not transferable. You will need to make a new application if you replace your Go Card.

Regional Queensland Concession sticker

If you wish to travel on concession fares in regional Queensland outside the Go Card network (for example Bus Queensland Toowoomba), you will need to apply for a regional concession sticker to put on your student ID card.

You will need to apply for a regional concession sticker annually for each year that you are enrolled and eligible for concession fares. If you are eligible, your regional concession sticker will expire on 31 March of the year following the year of issue.

To apply for a regional concession sticker, please complete the online UniSQ Transport Concession Sticker request form.

Travelling across both networks

If you are travelling across both of these networks (Go Card and Regional Queensland) you will need both forms of concession, ie Go Card concession and a concession sticker on your UniSQ Student ID Card.

Please note: you will not become eligible for concession travel until the commencement date of the study period you start your studies.

In addition to this, please be aware that if you change your enrolment during the study period, your eligibility for concession fares may be affected.

Please view the South East Queensland tertiary student FAQs on the Translink website for further information.

Other state/territory concession cards and fares

Please check your relevant state or territory Transport Concession webpage for requirements and to confirm if you are eligible. UniSQ does not affiliate with any other state transport providers other than those named above, please contact Transport providers directly for further information.
