How do I navigate around my StudyDesk course?

StudyDesk is so much more than just your online course content. It also contains links to other learning resources, important links, including your UMail and ePortfolio accounts.

The whole screen

  1. When you log into UConnect, and navigate to your StudyDesk, it will open on the Course activity tab.

The top Banner

The top banner gives you access to several different areas

  1. Breadcrumb trail This allows you to navigate through your course and shows you where you have gone
  2. My Courses - This is a drop down list that when clicked, will display a list of your current courses
  3. Notifications This will display a number if there are unread forum or private messages 
  4. Envelope icon - This will display the number of unread emails you have in your UMail account.  You can access your emails by clicking on the drop down arrow and clicking on an email or clicking on the View all  
  5. Question Mark - This will take you to Ask UniSQ which is a knowledge base of frequently asked questions, as well as direct links to your ePortfolio, Library, SRO, and other assistance
  6. Your Name - The drop down arrow will give you access to your Dashboard, and Site home, as well as your Profile where you can upload a photo
  7. UniSQ Date and Time This is particularly helpful for International students as all assignment due dates and times are set to UniSQ times

The Course Name

Note: This will show you the name of the StudyDesk course that you are viewing

The left hand navigation

Note: The left hand navigation will allow you to move easily around your study desk. The number of options displayed will depend on how your lecturer has chosen to set up the course.  This may vary from course to course.

  1. Course activity Whenever you log into a StudyDesk course you will always be taken to the Course activity tab.  This is the homepage for the course
  2. Getting Started If activated by your lecturer, the Getting started page will provide helpful information such as a welcome to the course, introductions to the teaching team and how to get stated on your course
  3. Forums - This page shows you a summary/overview of all of the forums for this course
  4. Assessment This will only display if the lecturer has activated it.  It is a summary page of all assessment items, and may contain links to submit any assignments for this course
  5. Study Schedule - This will only display if the lecturer has activated it.  It will contain a recommended study schedule to assist you in allocating time for all of the necessary activities and readings required to successfully complete the course
  6. Teaching team - This will display contact details of your lecturers for this course
  7. Course Readings - The Course Readings tab in the left hand navigation will take you to the Reading List for that particular course. The Reading List will contain a link to the Mandatory Text for that course, as well as any Additional or Recommended Reading as determined by the Course Examiner
  8. Calendar - This shows events related to selected courses.  Events can be added by you or the lecturer
  9. Participants - This lists all fellow students for this course.  If you click on a student it will take you to their profile

Note: To navigate away for a particular page, click on a specific tab or click on Course activity to take you back to the course homepage

Minimising content

Note: You have the ability to minimise the content of the course activity page. This will make it easier to view certain areas

Minimising the content on the right hand side

  1. Click on Collapse all

Note:  all sections are collapsed and show only the headings

  1. To view a particular section, click on the section heading

Note: That section will display

  1. To view all sections, click on Expand all

Note: All sections will re-display

Minimise the left hand navigation

  1. Click Hide

Note: The left hand navigation will minimise

  1. To go to a particular page, click on the relevant icon

To re-display left hand navigation

  1. Click on the arrow at the bottom of the icons
